ASSISTANT, COMPLIANCE (Ref: COM/IC/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible person to fill the position of Assistant in the Compliance Department. 

Job Duties:

  • To perform secretarial and clerical support to Investigation Counsel (“IC”);
  • To assist the IC to handle complaints and answer enquiries from the public and members;
  • To collate documents and assist the IC to prepare relevant reports;
  • To prepare draft correspondence (including memorandum and letters), keep relevant outgoing records and maintain proper filing both physically and digitally; and 
  • To fill in forms for conducting land searches, company searches, bankruptcy searches and death searches, etc.

Requirements:

  • F.6 or above with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • At least 1 year secretarial/clerical working experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Chinese Word Processing;
  • Good telephone manner; and

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (Ref: AD)

The Law Society of Hong Kong invites applications from high-calibre candidates for the position of Assistant Director.  The appointee will have overall responsibilities of leading a small team to organise events and activities as well as to devise strategic and operational plans to promote the image of the Law Society.

Job Duties:

  • Organise events, exhibitions, visits and functions for members of the Law Society and for the public;
  • Plan and execute the Law Society’s strategies and activities;
  • Plan and manage contracts and activities that are contracted out;
  • Draft communications write-ups such as executive speeches, advertorials and feature articles;
  • Oversee Law Society’s publications, websites and digital media channels;
  • Engage stakeholders, counterpart organisations as well as trade and industry associations to ensure corporate image and messages are presented effectively and properly;
  • Provide strategic and implementation advice on media issues where necessary;
  • Act as Secretaries to relevant committees and working groups (e.g., prepare meeting papers and minutes); and
  • Perform any other duties as directed.

Requirements:

  • A recognized university degree in law, mass communications, journalism, language or a related discipline;
  • A minimum of 5 years of solid managerial experience in public relations, marketing and event management;
  • Profound knowledge of multi-stakeholder communications, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and management skills;
  • Proactive, result-oriented, creative and highly self-motivated;
  • A team player who can work with colleagues, members and stakeholders; and
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.

COMMUNICATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OFFICER (Ref: CEA/OFR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Communications and External Affairs Officer.

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the communications and external affairs function of the Law Society. This includes assisting in the organisation of community events and publicity campaigns to promote Hong Kong’s legal services and to enhance the corporate image of the Law Society. The appointee will also assist in preparing papers for committee meetings, drafting speeches and social media posts, and coordinating the production of promotional materials. 

Requirements:

  • A degree holder with 2 to 3 years of experience in similar capacity;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including proficiency in Putonghua;
  • Independent, strong communication skills, and able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
  • Experience in event management;
  • Knowledge in using video conferencing platforms, Photoshop and other graphic design software will be an advantage; and 
  • Immediate availability is preferable.

LEGAL RESEARCH OFFICER (COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND MEMBER SERVICES) (Ref: CEA/LR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Legal Research Officer (Communications & External Affairs and Member Services) in the Communications & External Affairs and Member Services Department.

Reporting to the Director of Communications & External Affairs and Member Services, the appointee will be responsible for searching, collating and processing research materials and information on legal topics, supporting the preparation of communication materials such as speeches, letters, presentation materials and other publicity communications by providing background search, figures and statistics and policy updates, and performing other research-related duties or duties.   

Requirements:

  • A degree holder, preferably in law or communications;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including proficiency in Putonghua);
  • Good computer skills including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing; and
  • Be able to explore, identify, collect, synthesise and present up-to-date information from reliable sources in a timely, concise and organised manner.

PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY SCHEME OFFICER (Ref: PIS/OFF)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible person to fill the position of Professional Indemnity Scheme Officer in the Practitioners Affairs Department.

Job Duties include:

  • Carrying out research on ad hoc topics and preparing bilingual draft papers and presentation materials
  • Working and liaising with various parties including manager of the PIS, insurance broker, banks, auditors, investment consultants, investment managers, legal advisors and any other parties as directed by Director, Professional Indemnity Scheme (“DPIS”)
  • Assisting the arrangement of meetings including preparation of agenda, papers and reports for meetings, and any follow-up issues 
  • Providing secretarial and clerical services
  • Performing finance support functions 
  • Preparing cashflow projections
  • Handling internal as well as external enquiries

Requirements:

  • University graduate with good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (native in mandarin preferred) 
  • Proficiency in computer skills including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing
  • Mature, organised and able to work independently 
  • Legal and/or insurance knowledge or experience would be helpful
