Representing the Law Society, President Roden Tong joined the Secretary for Justice-led delegation visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 24 to 28 September. Comprising representatives from also the Hong Kong Bar Association and alternative dispute resolution organisations, the trip aimed to promote Hong Kong’s legal and dispute resolution services, and enhance cooperation and exchanges between Hong Kong and the ASEAN.

Apart from meetings with and visits to local government departments, legal organisations and business institutions to exchange views on the latest developments, to explore ways to strengthen collaboration, and to understand the demand for legal services in the local business sector, Mr Tong spoke at a forum titled “Hong Kong: The Common Law Gateway for Vietnamese Businesses to China and Beyond” in Ho Chi Minh City on 24 September. Insights were shared with over 120 audience on various topics, including Hong Kong’s diversified legal and dispute resolution services.

The delegation explained to the ASEAN counterparts Hong Kong’s unique advantages of “One Country, Two Systems”, and the opportunities arising from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative.
