Led by His Excellency Judge Khalid Ali Al Obaidli, President of the Qatar Investment and Trade Court (“Qatar ITC”), a nine-person delegation comprising seven judges from Qatar. accompanied by Acting Consul General of the State of Qatar in Hong Kong and Macau, visited Hong Kong recently. On 23 September, President Roden Tong, Vice-Presidents Christopher Yu and Careen Wong, Council Member Justin Yuen and Secretary General Heidi Chu were honoured to sit down with the delegation for a fruitful discussion.
The Law Society representatives took the opportunity to introduce to the delegation Hong Kong’s unique and robust legal system, the roles and functions of the Law Society, and explained the differences between the two branches of Hong Kong’s legal profession. The Law Society’s work in promoting LawTech, Belt and Road Initiative and Greater Bay Area development was also discussed. Particularly, the President highlighted the Law Society’s ambition to explore how artificial intelligence can help improve the efficiency of the legal profession while maintaining our highest professional standards.
The Law Society was glad to know that the Qatar ITC shared our enthusiasm towards playing a bridging role with each other’s valuable and unique international perspectives and experiences to facilitate trade and investment of the two jurisdictions.
