The Law Society was honoured to host an International Bar Association (“IBA”) Bar Breakfast on 19 September, as part of the IBA Annual Conference 2024 in Mexico City, Mexico. The event was a resounding success, having attracted attendees from various jurisdictions, including but not limited to Mexico, the Mainland, the United States, the UAE, and Paraguay.

Under the theme “Legal Alchemy: Hong Kong Solicitors Thriving in the Common Law Melting Point of One Country Two Systems”, Vice-President Amirali Nasir provided an insightful overview of Hong Kong’s unique Chinese-English bilingual common law legal system. He highlighted the distinct advantages of Hong Kong solicitors under “One Country, Two Systems” principle, particularly within the context of Hong Kong’s dynamic business environment. The concept of “One Country, Two Systems” and the synergies between Hong Kong and the Mainland captivated the audience, as evidenced by the engaging questions raised during the session which primarily focused on Hong Kong’s strengths and roles within the Asia-Pacific region.

The delegation also took the opportunity to invite the international community to attend the Law Society’s upcoming events to learn more about the unique role of Hong Kong under national initiatives.
