The International Bar Association (“IBA”) has recently published a research report on the social and economic impact of the legal profession, which aims to increase the general public’s understanding of the rule of law, the role of lawyers and the legal profession’s social and economic contribution to society.

As an institutional member of the IBA, Vice-President Careen Wong and Secretary General Heidi Chu attended an IBA meeting on 17 July. At the meeting, representatives of law societies and bar associations in the Asia Pacific region shared comments on the report and explored ways to convey the positive findings on the impact of the legal profession on society.

They took the opportunity to share with the international counterparts the Law Society’s work on rule of law education locally and outside Hong Kong, including youth legal education programme “Teen Talk”; “Law Week”, legal education and community service programme for the general public; and the law courses for Mainland law students endeavouring to help promote our country’s construction of foreign-related rule of law.
