On 16 May 2024, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (“CLA”) organised a webinar titled “AI and Ethics in Access to Justice”. Vice-President Amirali Nasir, who represents the Law Society on the CLA Council, was one of the speakers of the webinar.
The webinar provided a comprehensive overview of artificial intelligence (“AI”) in access to justice, including its benefits and drawbacks. Mr Nasir, alongside speakers from Kenya and Rwanda, shed light on the ethical considerations in using AI to improve access to justice, such as ensuring fairness and impartiality. Best practices for using AI ethically in access to justice, such as incorporating human oversight and conducting regular audits, were also discussed.
