The 32nd Inter-Pacific Bar Association (“IPBA”) Annual Meeting and Conference was held in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 to 27 April 2024. Themed “New World, New Wisdom”, this year’s Conference attracted over 1,400 attendees.

Led by President C. M. Chan, the Law Society’s delegation comprised Vice-President and Chairman of Standing Committee on External Affairs Roden Tong; Council member Careen Wong; Chairman of Committee on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement Fred Kan (also representing the Law Society as the IPBA Jurisdictional Council Member); Secretary General Heidi Chu; and young lawyer Kyle Ho.

On the ESG & Environmental Law panel on 25 April 2024, President C. M. Chan was invited to share his insights from a Hong Kong perspective on the topic “Is climate change the actual driving force behind ESG?”. Alongside speakers from Singapore, India, Japan and Italy, Mr Chan highlighted the ESG landscapes in Hong Kong and showcased Hong Kong’s effort in achieving a more sustainable environment.

The Law Society delegation also made the best of the Conference’s networking events, such as the Women Business Lawyers Reception, Welcome Reception, Gala Dinner and Farewell Dinner, to rekindle friendships and create new connections with the international legal and business counterparts.

The Law Society has always maintained a good working relationship with various lawyers’ associations and legal organisations from other jurisdictions.

The President spoke at the ESG & Environmental Law Panel of the Conference.
