Vice-President Amirali Nasir, who represents the Law Society on the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (“CLA”) Council, attended the Borneo Rainforest Law Conference 2024 co-organised by the CLA and Sabah Law Society in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia from 26 to 28 February 2024.
Mr Nasir was invited to moderate a session titled “Sabah green economy, model forest laws, carbon sovereignty – valuing and preserving nature” to share and exchange valuable knowledge and ideas with other international professionals from a Hong Kong perspective. During the World Justice Project Roundtable on Measuring Judicial Independence, Mr Nasir took the opportunity to provide a factual account of the situation in Hong Kong, including the independence of judiciary and rule of law.
The eco-themed Conference provided an opportunity for legal individuals to connect and hold in-depth discussions about interconnectedness between human rights and climate change, climate justice and the rule of law.
