The Law Society of Hong Kong is a professional association for solicitors in Hong Kong vested with statutory powers to regulate the professional conduct of solicitors, trainee solicitors and foreign lawyers. It was incorporated in 1907 as a company limited by guarantee.

At the invitation of The Law Society of Singapore, President C. M. Chan attended Singapore’s Opening of the Legal Year from 7 to 8 January 2024. Topics that were also of relevance to Hong Kong were addressed during the ceremony, including the reform of legal education, ethical and professional standards of lawyers, lawyers’ disciplinary violations, nurturing the next generation of lawyers, etc.
At the subsequent Presidents’ Roundtable hosted by The Law Society of Singapore, esteemed bar leaders from around the world engaged in discussions on topics with growing significance to the legal profession globally, such as the implications of generative artificial intelligence as a threat or opportunity, as well as how to maintain a viable legal practice for senior legal practitioners.
