On 27 September, the Law Society received a delegation of 30 Chinese senior judges from the 17th Advanced Programme for Chinese Senior Judges organised by the Centre for Judicial Education and Research cum Identification of Hong Kong Law, City University of Hong Kong.

Representatives of the Law Society included Vice-President Careen Wong, Council member and Vice-Chairman of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee Neville Cheng, as well as Council members Justin Yuen, Simon McConnell, Pak Sun Hau, Hin Han Shum and Joyce Cheng.

At the meeting, the Council members emphasised the independence that the Law Society enjoys as the regulator of the solicitors’ profession, which is crucial for maintaining high professional standards. Following the introduction session, the delegation enthusiastically shared their observations with the Law Society.

A wide range of issues were discussed during the meeting, including the distinctions between solicitors and barristers, as well as the Law Society’s long-standing connections with counterparts from Mainland China and other jurisdictions, established through Memoranda of Understanding and participation in various major international legal events.
