The Cross Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum (“CS4R Forum”) was successfully held on 20 September at the Members Stand, Hong Kong Jockey Club Happy Valley Racecourse. This significantly marks the first CS4R Forum since the pandemic. The CS4R Forum had its theme centered on Artificial Intelligence (“AI”), gathering legal experts from the region to discuss the theoretical and practical aspects of AI’s application in the legal sector. Participants examined the impacts and implications of AI through the framework of various laws and regulations, seeking the best way forward for its development.

Over 1,300 legal professionals from 113 law associations and government departments registered for the event, either virtually or in person.

During the Opening Ceremony, President Roden Tong highlighted that Hong Kong is the only Chinese-English bilingual common law jurisdiction in the world. He believed that the CS4R Forum, which covered the four regions, could definitely bring about synergy that can benefit the legal profession and society at large.

The Hon John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delivered his congratulatory message in the form of a pre-recorded video. The following distinguished guests delivered speeches at the Opening Ceremony and the Thematic Sharing Session:

  • The Hon Paul Lam Ting-kwok SC, Secretary for Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
  • The Hon Cheung Kwok-kwan, SBS, JP, Deputy Secretary for Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; and
  • Dr Jason Si, Vice President of Tencent Group and the Dean of Tencent Research Institute

Representatives from three other jurisdictions, including Mr Gao Zicheng, President of All China Lawyers Association; Mr Kassy Chang, President of Taoyuan Bar Association; and Ms Oriana Inácio Pun, Secretary-General of the Board of Directors of Macau Lawyers Association, also delivered speeches at the Opening Ceremony, sharing their visions for the forum.

The event featured a Main Session and three Sub-Sessions, as well as two Thematic Sharing Sessions, attracting legal professionals from lawyers' associations and government departments across various jurisdictions worldwide to participate.
