(26 May 2011 Hong Kong) - Mr. Junius K Y Ho, Senior Partner of K C Ho & Fong was elected the new President of the Law Society of Hong Kong on 26 May. He will lead the 20-member Council which is the governing body of the Law Society of Hong Kong.

Below is a list of the membership of the new Council of the Law Society of Hong Kong:

President: Junius K.Y. HO

Vice- Presidents: Dieter YIH and Ambrose S.K. LAM

Council members: Huen WONG, Peter C.L. LO, Michael J. LINTERN-SMITH, IP Shing Hing , Billy W.Y. MA, Sylvia W.Y. SIU, Cecilia K.W. WONG , Kenneth S.Y. NG, Stephen W.S. HUNG , Joseph C.W. LI, Amirali B. NASIR, Melissa K. PANG, Thomas S.T. SO, Angela W.Y. LEE, Brian W. GILCHRIST, Gavin P. NESBITT, and Denis G. BROCK. Prior to becoming the President, Mr. Junius Ho has served as a Council member of the Law Society of Hong Kong since 1995, and elected as a Vice-President since 2005.

Assuming his new position, Mr. Junius Ho said: "As President, I will give my best to serve the needs of our members and enhance the interests of the profession as a whole. I will focus my efforts, in particular, on:

  1. the development of the legal services market for solicitors in the Pearl River Delta Region and Qianhai;
  2. the introduction of limited liability partnerships and corporations for solicitors’ practice;
  3. the introduction of a fee structure that offers a more decent remuneration rate for work done by solicitors in criminal legal aid work; and
  4. the raising of public awareness of our core values and the maintenance of public confidence and respect of the highest level in the solicitors’ profession."
